Upcycled Headpiece
Date
September 2023
Role
Designer and creator
Project Type
Fashion design- Headpiece
Materials
Upcycled materials including plastic bottles, newspaper and thread reels
For this project I was commissioned to create a sustainable headpiece inspired by Damien Frost's Night Flowers photography series. I wanted to send a message of sustainability with my headpiece, I based my headpiece on the Chillingham cattle which is one of the last wild cattle herds left in the UK. I used old thread reels to create the horns, padding them out with newspaper. I upcycled plastic bottles to create the pitaya flower in the centre, this was fitting as the pitaya flower only blooms for one night. Using upcycled materials allowed me to experiment with forms and textures that I had not used before, I enjoyed using the natural patina of the newspaper to add to this.
